Tariff Commission Training,
Philippines
ARA developed and delivered a training
program on trade remedy law and procedures for the professional staff of
the Philippine Tariff Commission. This project was part of a larger
CIDA-funded project to strengthen the capacities of Filipino government
departments and agencies.

ARA was contracted to provide training
to BC Trade personnel involved in providing client services, including
managing commitments within budget limitations, building and managing client
relationships, managing staff in a client service environment, and collection
of receivables.
Macroeconomic Policy Workshop, Uzbekistan
ARA was invited to participate in a World
Bank funded initiative to provide senior Uzbek officials with some insights
into the WTO accession process, to stimulate the Government of Uzbekistan
to move ahead more rapidly with the submission of their memorandum of accession,
and to gear up in organizational terms for the difficult and protracted
negotiations that will follow.
Tariff Differential Analysis, Nova Scotia
Department of Economic Development, North America
ARA was contracted to identify the extent
to which US and Canadian tariffs and non-tariff barriers differed on the
shipment of goods from European countries to the US and Canada respectively.
The objective was to identify tariff and non-tariff barrier differentials
that could be sufficient to ship the commodities/goods to Nova Scotia and
add sufficient value to be treated as tariff-free for re-export to the
US. |
Market Access Study, a la Mode, Inc.,
North America
ARA researched and analyzed market access
conditions in Canada for an American producer of software. This project
involved a detailed study of taxation and customs laws and procedures and
provided the US exporter with a recommended market strategy.
Trade and Economic Policy Analysis,
Canadian Association of Japanese Auto Dealers, North America
ARA prepared policy analysis briefs on
tariffs, trade policies, and taxation issues that impact imports of Japanese-produced
automobiles. This project required ARA to analyze the economic outlook
and consumer spending conditions for motor vehicles in Canada and to assess
the trade policy environment for any improvement in the conditions of market
access for vehicles and parts, including tariffs, duty remission orders,
and the position of North American producers as enshrined in the Auto Pact
and NAFTA.
Small Enterprise Development Initiative,
Barbados
ARA provided a specialist in small enterprise
development to examine the current legislative, regulatory and fiscal environment
affecting small business in Barbados, and prepared recommendations for
new directions in entrepreneurial education and training, business information
and related services, and suggested an organization mandate and mission
for the Business Development Unit of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce
and Business Development. |
